Groot O'Lantern

I hadn't carved a pumpkin the past few Halloween's.  I thought it'd be fun to resurrect that old tradition with one of my favorite new comic characters. After searching around on the web, I found a nice pattern that I thought I would try of our good friend Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy.  You can find that pattern on the sheknows.com website.

My carving skills were a bit rusty and the pattern was pretty ambitious, but I think it turned out pretty well.  I even used the dirty flat side of the pumpkin to give the Groot O'Lantern a bit more character in the daylight.

In hindsight, however, I think I would have taken the approach where you etch out the design instead of cutting all the way through the pumpkin.  A couple of days later, Groot is looking pretty shriveled up and pathetic. :(

Vectors, Logos, and Sports Oh My!

It's been a while since I've shared any artwork on here.  Last night I wrapped up a concept for a new logo for one of my hockey teams. So I wanted to share that along with some of my other favorites. Every now and then I get asked to put together a logo for something. Sometimes it's a hockey team, or a friend's beach volleyball team and sometimes it's for a website idea I've been working on.  It's really one of my favorite tasks to do. I almost always build them out in Illustrator. I love the clean look and blocked colors you can get by using vector Illustration.  Plus when they are vector they are very easily scaled for printing at various sizes.  Here's a few of my favorites.  Some are extremely derivative while others are completely original. Enjoy and let me know what you think!
